Safe Trading Tips

We verify every listing before it goes live, but once you and a seller move to WhatsApp or another app, the conversation happens outside Wavuka and beyond our view. These tips will help you trade safely and avoid displeasing situations.

Take it for a test drive. If you are not confident judging a car yourself, hire a mechanic to check for hidden damage. Ask to see the ownership documents and registration, and make sure the details match the vehicle and the seller in front of you. Take your time. A genuine seller will not rush you.

Before you commit, look at what other buyers have said about them on Wavuka. A seller with an honest track record is a safer bet than one with none.

Choose a busy, well-lit location such as a petrol station, a mall car park, or near a police station. Go during daylight hours, and take a friend or family member along. Tell someone where you are going and when you expect to be back.

Bank or Mobile money transfers leave a record that can be traced if something goes wrong. Large amounts of cash cannot be recovered and make you a target while carrying them.

Send payment only to the seller you have met, never to a third party or to a different number given to you at the last minute. Wavuka will never request payment from the buyer.

Never share your bank details, PINs, or passwords with anyone, including someone claiming to represent Wavuka. Wavuka does not process payments and will never ask you for payment or financial details.

If a price seems too good to be true, it usually is. If a seller pressures you to pay quickly, refuses to meet in person, or asks you to send money before you have seen the vehicle, walk away and report the listing to us at info@wavuka.com.

Keep your conversation with the seller in writing where you can. If a dispute arises later, a written record of what was agreed is far more useful than the memory of a phone call.
